Example project: Newlyn Harbour Slipway Penzance, Cornwall

As part of an investigation into a poorly performing slipway boat hoist, Preston ESL were instructed to carry out a detailed survey of the rails that the boat hoist uses to travel into the water. The client wanted to know how much deviation from correct alignment was present. The survey involved taking a measurement on the centre of each rail every metre. The rails were then modelled in 3d and contours overlaid to indicate alignment deviations.
